Witch-Week 08 - 14 January 2012

This year the Belalp Witch is celebrating it's 30th anniversary. In the year 1983 the first race, which was organised by the skiing Club Belalp, took place. Every year more and more people join in. The basic idea is based on an old Valais legend, that tells the story of an old witch who used to live here and was burnt at the stake after she murdered her husband. In honor of her husband it was decided to organise a Witch-Week.
"D'Häx isch los!"/"The witch is loos!" - during this week you will meet many witches, some might have crooked noses, some might have a wart on their chin or maybe even a flying broomstick. The old and young will be fascinated by the magnificently dressed-up witches.
But it's not all about the costumes, the race also plays an important part. The Belalp Witch race with the 12 km long race track down from the Hohstock (3112 a. s. l.) is one of the "Super 4" races in Switzerland.
But the fun doesn't stop there. On Friday and Saturday there are celebrations with musical entertainment all over Blatten.
